Every year Trendence, a specialist career research organisation, publishes a list of the most popular graduate jobs. And this year many observers expected a shift in the rankings following the economic turmoil of the last 12 months. So what did they find.
Well. Despite widespread recognition that the Public Sector is going to suffer hefty cut-backs in the near future it triumphed for the 4th year in a row as the the most popular Industry amongst graduates.
Unsurprisingly, Investment Banking has drifted down the rankings to 14th place although retail banking and financial services held their own in 6th position.
The highest climber is the charity sector moving from 11th up to 5th place whilst Retail, Property and Construction struggle to capture the imagination of students, even though they are major recruiters.
The overall conclusions of the research suggest that there may be a disconnect between graduate perceptions of Industries and the reality of which are most likely to offer them graduate jobs.
Oh. And the most popular Employer as vote by students. HSBC.
