Graduate Jobs (and the lack of them) has become a hot topic of the election as politicians jockey to win the student vote.
So if you're currently at University you might want to know about a new pledge from Nick Clegg. If elected, he has promised to create 800,000 paid internships for kids and students looking for work.
The pledge came to light during a Q&A session with students on the community platform The Student Room. The Liberal Democrat leader praised the value of summer internships and their ability to give a flavour of careers as well as connecting graduates with possible employers.
Nick Clegg emphasised how important internships were to his party before making his pledge to create 800,000 in his first year in office…if elected.
Certainly sounds like a good deal for students in search of graduate jobs however similar initiatives such as the graduate talent pool haven't proved as effective in practice as they seemed in principle. Is this another headline grab or a feasible initiative? Given the seriousness of the graduate jobs shortage we hope it's the former but only time will tell...
