Graduate Jobs in IT not just for Techies!

13 August 2010

A recent survey by the Association of Graduate Recruiters (AGR) found that graduate jobs in IT are going to account for 8.8% of all graduate vacancies this year. That's more than consulting, legal work or financial management and can only be topped by careers in general management of Investment banking.

So there's a huge opportunity for graduates seeking employment in the IT sector but many are being put off, thinking it's only for programmers who want to sit in a dark room!

The reality is that a lot of IT companies are recruiting graduates for positions that involve no technical knowledge but instead require strong communication skills and general commercial awareness.

Many companies are now going out of their way to explain that you don't need a computer science degree to land graduate jobs in IT. An interest in technology yes but not a degree in it. KPMG, Accenture and IBM are all hitting campuses this autumn to make this message known and to showcase their jobs in consulting and business analysis.

If you're looking for a growing sector which is recruiting heavily take a closer look at technology. It's not just for geeks!
