We like to think of a career in recruitment as a hidden secret, with only the lucky few discovering what it means to be a Recruitment Consultant. The role is a varied sales position, not a typical 9-5 role, where you will be responsible for much more than “finding people the right job”.

To be successful at this role you do not need technical knowledge (you are placing the specialists, you do not have to be one yourself). You do need to be ambitious and have a lot of self-motivation as a large proportion of this role is telesales; selling the recruitment services of our company to our clients.

The role of a Recruitment Consultant is best thought of in two easy stages:

Clients

* Actively canvas clients through cold calling, selling SThree’s recruitment services

* Managing your own time, organising your day to maximise your productivity

* Network through clients and expand contact lists by developing new relationships and, in turn, new business 

Candidates

* Writing adverts to attract new talent

* Searching our well established database for appropriate candidates

* Short-listing CVs for the suitability of a particular role (a telephone based interview)

£18,000

In the UK, starting as a Trainee Recruitment Consultant you will be paid a basic salary of circa £18,000, depending on location and experience.

Once you start generating income (placing job-seekers in roles for a fee), you will benefit from one of the most generous commission schemes in the industry. In your first year we realistically expect you to earn between £25,000 - £40,000, however your commission is uncapped, so the more successful you are the more you will earn. In 2006 our top 2 ‘Rookies’ (new starters) Ruth Steel and Pieter Bedaux earned £157,800 and £158,160 respectively in their first year, can you beat that? There after the sky’s the limit with 2nd year OTEs averaging £40,000 - £80,000 and many of our consultants going on to earn six figure salaries in their career.

The office comes alive when you make a placement, with every member of your team wanting to join in the celebration of another deal – ringing bells, standing applause or by the cry of "Deal!", you certainly won’t miss the excitement of your colleagues success. 

In addition to the unlimited earning potential that SThree offers its consultants, we regularly run incentive schemes that cover a whole variety of rewards. From monthly achiever lunch clubs with the directors in some of the top restaurants in town, to attending all expenses paid ‘Super Trips’, also known as Crème de la Crème holidays, in fantastic locations such as Las Vegas, Miami and Sun City. Incentives are open to all from day one of joining, and can be awarded for a number of reasons, not just to those who make the most money. New incentives schemes are introduced all the time, most recently one office ran a competition for all those attending client visits – the lucky winner received a top of the range digital camcorder.

A favourite of our consultants is our company car scheme, where you are targeted over a 3 - 6 month period. If you achieve your target you will receive a fully expensed company car, you just pay for the petrol! There are 3 levels of car to achieve, starting with…

1st level - VW Polo 3dr Sport

2nd level - Mazda MX5 or Golf 2.0 GTi or Mini Cooper 1.6s

3rd level - Porsche Boxster or BMW X3 or Mercedes Cabriolet or Audi Convertible or similar
