Victory! CareerPlayer wins Best Employment Advice Website at the NORAS

Well, we did it again!

Here's Adam and Rob collecting the award in London last week and doing the obligatory 'Hey, we won!' pose

We won the award for Best Employment Advice Website at the National Online Recruitment Awards (NORAs) for the 4th year running, because we're just that great.
Modest too. How do we do it?
We were pretty chuffed to win again - considering we were up against Monster, the Government jobs website, Jobsite and Guardian Careers. There were 164,000 nominations for 583 separate recruitment websites - yes, you read that right. We may be small but we're scrappy!

It's a boy!

Just in time to redress the gender balance in the office after last week's events, Tom joined the team at CareerPlayer on Monday and has already been forced to do the tea and coffee round twice - best to get him used to it early, we say. It's kinder in the long run! He's going to be bringing his expert sales technique to CareerPlayer Towers, so, without further ado, here's Tom, ladies and gents!:

"The CareerPlayer family have welcomed me as their younger brother. I graduated from Bournemouth Uni last year in Leisure Marketing and moved west to quench my thirst for cider. When I’m not working you will either find me producing music, playing darts with my recently established darts team 'Chairmen Of The Board' or planning a music festival. I will be teaming up with Adam to make sure the sales go through the roof and the great testimonials keep rolling in! Lights, camera and action!"

Tom enjoys blending in with the local culture whilst travelling abroad, as can be seen below:

Yes, it's official...

...Careerplayer has hired its first ever woman. What on earth would Don Draper make of that?

Isabel is going to be handling all the marketing for the team, as well as correcting everyone's spelling (she's recently jumped ship from the world of print publishing, lured by the glamour of CP towers). As a recent(ish) graduate, she's the baby of the team, and hopes she can use her own knowledge of the perils of the grad job market to help the next generation of uni leavers.

When she's not working, Isabel and her lovely music therapist buddy run a charity music group in a residential home for the elderly. They sing, play music and generally have a great laugh (and lots of tea and cake).

Isabel brings a wide range of transferable skills to the team, including an appreciation for cask-strength Islay single malt whisky, an excessive fondness for the word 'aesthetics', and a penchant for talking about herself in the third person.

Look out for her at your next uni careers fair - she's the chatty redhead, so come and say hello!

Then (check out that early 90s outfit!)...

...and now (yes, every day is 1940s gangster day at CP towers)

Bag your Dream Career...

What do you do when you're feeling workshy and fancy a diversion from the to-do list?

Well, not so long ago we decided to shun a day in the office in favour of a morning coffee. This lead to a cheeky little brainstorm for video ideas, which lead to thinking about Valentine's day, which lead to coming-up with an idea, which lead to grabbing people from the street, dragging them into a room and filming this little promo!

Was great fun. We did the whole thing in a day and below is the result...

Graduate Internship Awards

Our friends at RateMyPlacement have just held the inaugural National Placement and Internship Awards celebrating the best employer and student contributions to work experience.

Being a nosey bunch, we were thrilled to be asked along to film the proceedings and find out what they're all about.

Check out our promo film of the day below...

Carl Gilleard + CareerPlayer + Golf = Graduate Market Update Video!

There are 2 things you need to know about Carl Gilleard. The first is that he's head of the Association of Graduate Recruiters (AGR) which makes him a walking oracle on the graduate market. The second is that he's an uber golf enthusiast. So to tempt him away from the office we invited him to indulge in both his passions...

The result is this video which is the first in a regular series of films offering a unique insight into how things look in the graduate market each quarter. In it Carl reveals his advice for graduates, his views on the key issues facing employers and his predictions for 2010.

But most importantly, remember readers...drive for show, putt for dough!

The Kit Kat Challenge...

It's amazing what happens when you're sat with a drink and 40 Kit Kats. Not so long ago we found ourselves in just that position with the excellent people from RateMyPlacement (RMP) and Nestle. And very quickly the Kit Kat Challenge was born. Think Jenga. But with Kit Kats. And a proper prize for winning rather than just the admiration of your mates.

Before long it went nationwide with students up and down the country fiercely competing for a place in the final. To see what it's all about and to get some top tips for the ultimate Kit Kat tower we headed to the Loughborough career fair...

Pretty awesome work by Nestle and RMP to bring it all together. Beats your average career fair stand and makes a welcome change from wandering around collecting pens for your stationary cabinet!

Keep your eyes peeled for the challenge coming to a campus near you. And don't forget our top tips for making the most of Career Fairs.
